State Business Leadership Conference

Yay! One of the most exciting parts about being a member of FBLA… State Business Leadership Conference! Although many members take pride in sharing their own versions of the SBLC experience, some students have yet to see what it’s all about. Here are some things to expect at State and tips to prepare for some common occurrences.

It’s Crowded! Sometimes we forget that students from all over the state come to put their business skills to the test, and the numbers shock us! The best way to deal with crowded hallways and long elevator waits is to leave early! Even if you’re staying only a couple floors up from where your competition is, plan ahead for busy elevators and hall traffic. You should be at your event/session/workshop or anything state related at least 15 minutes early. If you need a little help reminding yourself, use the little phrase, “Early is on time, on time is late, and late is left behind!”

Judges can make you nervous… no worries! Everyone has a first time competing, and if this is your first time doing a performance event in front of live judges, it helps to be polished. Practice your event in front of your advisor, teachers, peers, parents, and friends. Rubrics for all events can be found online, so you can even get real feedback to help your performance be the best it can be!

There is a lot of time at state to network and grow, take advantage of it! It can be so tempting to relax in your hotel room after a busy day of competing, but use your free time to attend workshops and meet new members! If you’re someone who just needs a nap, plan accordingly so you don’t miss any crucial workshops that could help your future!

Here’s what some of the State Officers have to say about SBLC: Our Northern Region Vice President, Sadie Share, said “Don’t be afraid to introduce yourself to members from different chapters!” Harrison Jones, Eastern Region Vice President, said “SBLC is a life changing experience. After attending your first time, you’ll fall in love with it.” Aaron Cheng, our Vice President of Service said “Don’t be shy! Present with confidence!” And our President, Landi Goddard said “Do as much as you can, and make the most of the few days you are there!”

We are so excited to meet new members and revisit with the returning members at SBLC! Remember, if you have any questions or concerns about State or anything FBLA, your State Officers emails are always open, we would love to hear from you!

Today, I went to the beachfront with my children. I
found a sea shell and gave it to my 4 year old daughter and said "You can hear the ocean if you put this to your ear." She placed the shell to her ear and screamed.
There was a hermit crab inside and it pinched her ear. She
never wants to go back! LoL I know this is completely off topic but I had to tell someone!
