With FBLA comes the long journey of preparing for tests and competitive events… always with the hope lingering in member’s minds of qualifying for the National Leadership Conference. However, even though this hope becomes a reality for many through hard work, there are still obstacles to overcome in order to make it to that National stage. And being that NLC is a once in a lifetime experience, it could be assumed there is a pretty heavy price tag attached to it, right? Well Nevada FBLA knows this and because the organization is dedicated to giving members every opportunity possible, we don’t want money to stand in the way of that. In order to assure everyone gets the chance to be submersed in the wonderful world of leadership on the national level, Nevada FBLA has made it possible to receive a $100 stipend to alleviate the cost of NLC. This scholarship is presented in the name of Erin Hackman, a former Nevada FBLA State President who tragically died in a car accident.
So how to do qualify? It’s simple! The application entails three different requirements: 1.) a Letter of Application stating why and how you intend to maximize the NLC experience and how the experience will benefit your local and state chapter, a description of your FBLA accomplishments, and a statement of plans for your career objective; 2.) a resume of FBLA involvement, offices held, etc.; and 3.) a letter of recommendation from your chapter adviser or school administrator. Sounds easy, right? This is just one of many ways to keep on your path towards that Gateway to Greatness. So don’t miss out on this opportunity to make it to NLC in San Antonio, Texas!
With the holiday season in full swing, we want to extend our warmest greetings and wishes for a cheerful holiday this year. On behalf of the State Officer Team, we wish you a safe, happy, and memorable holiday. This holiday season we know many of your chapters will be actively participating in community service projects, and we hope to hear all about them. As FBLA members, we are some of the most generous students in the nation, and we truly look forward to hearing about the community service your chapters are participating in. Enjoy your Holiday and the Winter Break!

Happy Holidays everyone! Hope you are getting in those membership dues. As the holiday season falls into full swing, membership has been going up. We are drawing ever closer to that half way mark for our membership. Congratulations to Southwest Career & Technical Academy for meeting their goal of 25 members! Also great job on the part of Northwest Career Technical Academy and West Wendover for keeping those membership numbers steadily rising. I hope every can pull together and recruit to make this year wonderful for as many people as possible. Have a safe and happy holiday!
The March of Dimes is an organization focused on helping to save premature babies. Thirteen million babies are born too early worldwide, which put them at a higher risk of having lifelong disabilities. November was March of Dimes Month and we used the whole month to help raise money for March of Dimes! Premature birth is the number one cause of death in newborns and it costs over $51,000 each baby born prematurely. Service is such a huge part of being a business leader and partnering with March of Dimes means we fight to save babies as well. If your chapter gathered together to all help to save premature babies, let us know about the amazing things you did!
Don’t know what to do as a fundraiser? Try hosting a school dance, having a bake sale, or having a read-a-thon. These fundraisers give the whole community an opportunity to help out. “Our school has a dime demolition every year for homecoming, it adds to the competition of homecoming and makes a ton of money!” said Chris Correa, West Wendover FBLA Chapter President. You can also participate in March of Dimes sponsored fundraisers. For more information, contact one of the following March of Dimes representatives:

When everyone works together, there is a much greater chance of being successful.
During the month of October, I hope you got to see your State Officer team in action at the Fall Leadership Extravaganza! All the Career Technical Student Organizations planned the workshop during the summer at our Lake Tahoe summit in July. We were thrilled to get the chance to network with all of you and we hope you enjoyed the experience!
If you attended the extravaganza, could describe your experience with three words by leaving a comment below?
Currently, your State Officer Team is working on setting up chapter visits with your advisers. It has been one of our favorite activities of the year, getting the chance to meet with members and speak to them at their meetings.
From November 12-13, I attended the National Fall Leadership Conference in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The National Fall Leadership Conference or NFLC is a smaller version of the National Leadership Conference, where members get to participate in motivational general sessions and amazing career and development planning workshops. The experience was absolutely rewarding, as members met with inspirational leaders and keynote speakers. The two-day conference kicks off with the opening session and the next two days are filled with back-to-back workshops ranging from a variety of leadership training, career development, and college preparation. Attending workshops, networking with other members, listening to inspirational leaders were all part of my wonderful experience in Milwaukee. It was also great getting to see McKenna Murray, your Nevada Executive Vice President and National Secretary in action at NFLC!

Closing out, here’s a sticky note reminder:

The Nevada Fall Leadership Extravaganzas were positive and helpful events. All of the Career Technical Student Organizations worked seamlessly and in perfect harmony at this conference. The members were able to acquire a wide variety of knowledge while enjoying themselves. Workshops, amazing guest speakers, and the state officers excelled in preparation, participation, and execution of this event. The Future Business Leaders of America had great turnout with over 350 members attending statewide. The members suggested new ideas, interacted with one another, and networked with the officers and members who attended. At the event, members were proud to bring up and mention the many goals and ideas they had for FBLA, HOSA, DECA, and FCCLA. Our state officers made sure to record these ideas for future reference. With your help we are looking forward to get every suggested item executed. FLX was truly a meanigful and worthwile confrence.
