Now is the time to get the ball rolling and start membership recruitment! The beginning of the school year is the perfect time to start promoting your local chapter around school, so prospective members can have an idea of our organization. Here are a few simple recruitment ideas to help your chapter get a kick start:
Participate in school events and set up a booth to attract new members.
Take advantage of freshman orientation, club fairs, open house, and other events. This is a great opportunity to reach out to new students about FBLA and answer any questions they may have. If you have a booth set up, create a trifold and add pictures from chapter meetings, state conference, and chapter events!
Promote FBLA and its opportunities to students in other classes.
Ask your teachers if a few members from your chapter can go visit their class to advocate for FBLA. Preparing a slideshow, creating promotional fliers, and having a short blurb with a personal story are all helpful ways to inform students about our organization.
Advertise heavily during the first few weeks of school.
Have your chapter become known by creating and placing eye-catching fliers and posters around school. Additionally, utilize school broadcasts by creating videos or announcing weekly meetings on school announcements. If your school has a newspaper, submit an article about your local chapter and the amazing opportunities of FBLA!
Host an ice cream social for your first local chapter meeting.
One of the best ways to attract future members to a meeting is promising them that there will be food! For your first meeting, introduce what FBLA is and prepare an ice cream party with exhilarating icebreakers.
FBLA is not possible without our fabulous members! Take time with your chapter to plan and advertise these first few weeks. We hope some of these simple and easy tips were useful and made it easier to brainstorm other recruitment ideas. With the start of a new year, we can’t wait to see how your chapter reaches new heights in membership recruitment! As always, best of luck from your State Officers!
